Championships Competition Structure

Championship Season Structure

The Championship regular season consists of 26 rounds.

Each team will play all other Championship teams home and away once.

The club finishing at the top of the Championship at the end of the regular season will receive the League Leaders’ Shield.

The clubs finishing in the top eight positions in the Championship will participate in the play-offs with the winners of the Championship Grand Final crowned champions.

The five clubs finishing 10th to 14th will be relegated to Championship One, due to the restructing of Rugby League in 2015.

Championship One Season Structure

The Championship One regular season consists of 24 rounds, with each club playing 20 regular season fixtures and having four bye rounds during the season.

Each team will play all other Championship One teams home and away once plus 4 additional "loop" fixtures (2 home fixtures and 2 away fixtures).

The clubs finishing 1st to 5th will participate in the end of season Championship One play-offs with the winners of the Championship One play-off final earning promotion to the Championship.

Championship Play-off Structure

Week 1

Qualifying play-offs

1st-placed club v 4th-placed club (winner advances to Week 3, loser home in Week 2)

2nd-placed club v 3rd-placed club (winner advances to Week 3, loser home in Week 2)

Elimination play-offs

5th-placed club v 8th-placed club (winner away in Week 2, loser eliminated)

6th-placed club v 7th-placed club (winner away in Week 2, loser eliminated)

Week 2

Preliminary semi-finals

Highest ranked Qualifying play-off losing club (1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th) v Lowest-ranked Elimination play-off winning club (5th, 6th, 7th or 8th) (winner away in Week 3, loser eliminated)

Lowest ranked Qualifying play-off losing club (1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th) v Highest-ranked Elimination play-off winning club (5th, 6th, 7th or 8th) (winner away in Week 3, loser eliminated)

Week 3

Qualifying semi-final 1

Highest-ranked Qualifying play-off winning club v Lowest-ranked Preliminary semi-final winning club (Winner to Grand Final, loser eliminated)

Qualifying semi-final 2

Lowest-ranked Qualifying play-off winning club v Highest-ranked Preliminary semi-final winning club (Winner to Grand Final, loser eliminated)

Week 1

Qualifying Play-Off - 2nd place club v 3rd place club (winner to Qualifying Semi-Final, loser at home in Elimination Semi-Final)

Elimination Play-Off - 4th place club v 5th place club (winner advances to play away in Elimination Semi-Final, loser eliminated)

Week 2

Qualifying Semi-Final - 1st place club v Winner of Qualifying play-off (winner to Grand Final, loser at home in Final Eliminator)

Prize-money

Prize-money will be paid to the top two sides taking part in the Championship play-offs as follows: 

Grand final winners:    £40,000

  • Grand finals runners-up:         £20,000

Prize-money will also be paid to the five teams competing in the Championship One play-offs as follows: 

  • Play-off winners:         £20,000
  • Play-off runners-up:    £7,500
  • 3rd place after the play-offs: £3,500
  • 4th place after the play-offs: £3,000
  • 5th place after the play-offs: £2,500
